What makes Newell Paddle Boards premium boards?

Newell Paddle Boards

Newell's industry-leading inflatable paddleboards stand out for their outstanding durability, featuring military-grade Monocoque Structural Laminate (MSL) fusion PVC construction combined with composite drop-stitch fibres, ensuring it can withstand challenging conditions. Its stability is a significant advantage, making it accessible to beginners and satisfying for experienced paddlers.

The board's versatility shines with its kayak seat conversion feature and additional D-rings for easy gear attachment, offering varied experiences on the water. Enhanced portability is achieved with a new soft carrying handle, simplifying transportation for any adventure. The newly designed backpack adds to the appeal, providing a lighter and more comfortable option for carrying the board.

What is MSL Fusion Construction?

Monocoque Structural Laminate (MSL) fusion construction stands as the industry leader in manufacturing processes. It is the construction method of choice for premium inflatable stand-up paddleboards. Boards crafted with this advanced technology and manufacturing process embody the best of both in durability and performance.

Different construction methods arise from the way PVC is added starting from the drop stitching. Basic single-layer boards are crafted by hand-applying a layer of soft PVC to coat the drop-stitch core. This construction method is typically found in lower-end boards as it requires the least amount of material and specialized equipment. Because it relies only on one layer of soft PVC to keep the drop stitching core airtight, these boards can be less durable. Single-layer boards also exhibit more flex and don’t perform as well.

Double-layer boards are created by adhering an additional layer of more rigid PVC onto the initial layer, coating the entire paddle board a second time. This process yields a board that is significantly more rigid and durable, with much heavier weight. However, it can also lead to the formation of air pockets and cosmetic flaws during the gluing process and is susceptible to delamination as the adhesives degrade.

This leads us to MSL Fusion construction, which offers the best in quality and performance. MSL Fusion eliminates the manual application of the first layer of soft PVC. Instead, a robust adhesive covers the drop stitch core, serving as the initial layer. This is followed by a second layer of sturdy rigid PVC, similar to the PVC used in the second layer of traditional dual-layer boards. However, in MSL Fusion, this second layer is machine laminated and fused onto the board, eliminating potential imperfections from the manual gluing process and ensuring a flawless cosmetic finish.

Similar to double-layer construction, the addition of a layer of strong and rigid PVC in MSL Fusion significantly enhances rigidity, strength, and durability compared to single-layer boards. Yet, the board remains considerably lighter due to the use of machine lamination and the elimination of the initial soft PVC coating. The soft PVC layer becomes redundant on dual-layer boards due to the presence of the rigid PVC layer, which serves a more substantial purpose

For long-lasting, lightweight durability, Newell inflatable paddleboards adopt MSL Fusion as our premium construction method of choice. We focus on achieving the perfect balance, and maintaining lightweight construction while offering strength, durability, and rigidity.

 Construction of Newell Paddleboards

1- X-Woven Drop Stitches: X-woven drop stitch technology is an advanced construction method that significantly enhances the board's functionality and durability.

2- Base Cloth: Base cloth contains the drop stitching that forms the core of the board.

3- Adhesive Coating: The adhesive coating prepares the base cloth for the additional PVC layer application.

4- Doubled PVC Layer: The second PVC layer fuses with the board during the lamination process.

5- 1st Layer of Side Rail: The heat-pressed seam forms an airtight and waterproof seal along the board's side edge.

6- 2nd Layer of Side Rail: The second side layer provides additional protection against UV rays and scratches.

7- Exclusive Non-slip Eva Pad: The Non-Slip EVA Pad is a unique, high-quality decking material used to provide traction and comfort.
