    Spring Paddling Is Here!

    17 Jan 2024

Spring is in the air, and that means it’s time to break out the paddle board and hit the water! If you're a fan of paddle boarding, you know how exhilarating it can be to glide across the water's surface, soaking up the sun and feeling the breeze on your skin. But before you dive in, it's essential to prepare yourself and your equipment for a safe and enjoyable season of paddle boarding.

Here are some tips to get you started:

    1. Check your gear

Before you hit the water, make sure your paddle board is in good condition. Check for any cracks, dents, or damage that could compromise its stability or buoyancy. Also, inspect your paddle for any signs of wear and tear. If you notice any issues, take your board and paddle to a professional for repairs or replacement.

    2. Dress for success

Spring weather can be unpredictable, so make sure to dress appropriately for the conditions. You'll want to wear lightweight, breathable clothing that allows for a full range of motion. Consider wearing a wetsuit if the water is still chilly or if you plan to be out for an extended period. Don't forget to wear a life jacket or personal flotation device, as it's essential for safety on the water.

    3. Hydrate and fuel up

Paddle boarding can be a physically demanding activity, so make sure you stay hydrated and nourished. Bring plenty of water and snacks to keep your energy levels up while you're out on the water. Consider packing a small cooler with drinks and snacks, so you don't have to cut your paddle boarding session short to refuel.

    4. Build up your endurance

If you haven't been paddle boarding regularly over the winter, it's essential to ease back into the activity gradually. Start with shorter sessions and gradually build up your endurance over time. Consider taking a lesson or working with a coach to improve your technique and increase your stamina.

    5. Plan your route

Before you hit the water, plan your route and make sure you're aware of any potential hazards, such as strong currents, rocks, or other watercraft. Check the weather forecast and be prepared to adjust your plans if conditions change. It's also a good idea to let someone know where you're going and when you plan to return, just in case of an emergency.

    6. Stay safe

Finally, always prioritize safety on the water. In addition to wearing a life jacket or personal flotation device, consider bringing a whistle, signaling device, or other safety equipment. Be aware of your surroundings and always follow boating regulations and guidelines.

Paddle boarding is a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and have fun at the same time. One of the reasons why paddle boarding is so fun is that it offers a unique perspective on the environment. You're standing on a board, gliding across the water, and seeing the world from a different angle. Plus, there's something very meditative about being out on the water, surrounded by nature and away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The spring season of paddle boarding is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and get some exercise. By preparing yourself and your equipment and taking the necessary safety precautions, you can have a safe and enjoyable season on the water. So, grab your paddle board, hit the water, and enjoy the ride. is in the air, and that means it’s time to break out the paddle board and hit the water!
