What are the common issues with your Paddleboard and How can you fix them?

Inflatable paddle boards have surged in popularity due to their portability and convenience. However, like any equipment, they can experience wear and tear over time. Common issues such as seam leaks, valve leaks, and air bubbles on the deck pad can arise. In this complete guide, we'll explore effective techniques to fix these problems and extend the lifespan of your beloved inflatable paddle board.

Seam Leaks

Seam leaks occur when the seams of an inflatable paddle board start to come apart, leading to air leakage. Follow these steps to fix seam leaks:

  1. Identify the Leak: Inflate the board and submerge it in water to look for bubbles emerging from the seams. Mark the locations with a waterproof marker.
  2. Prepare the Area: Deflate the board and clean the marked areas thoroughly using mild detergent and water to remove dirt or debris.
  3. Apply Adhesive: Use PVC adhesive (such as Gorilla Glue) generously along the seam, spreading it evenly with a brush or spatula.
  4. Bond the Seam: Press the two sides of the seam together firmly, using a roller to apply even pressure and remove air bubbles.
  5. Allow for Curing: Follow the product instructions for curing time, typically a few hours or overnight.
  6. Test the Repair: Inflate the board and submerge it again to ensure the leak is fixed.

Valve Leaks

Valve leaks occur when the valve on your inflatable paddle board fails to hold air. Here's how to fix them:

  1. Identify the Leak: Inflate the board and listen for air escaping from the valve area. Apply soapy water to the valve and look for bubbles. Mark the leaky spot.
  2. Tighten the Valve: Use the appropriate Newell's valve wrench or tool to tighten the valve without stripping the threads.
  3. Replace the O-ring: If tightening doesn't work, replace the O-ring with a new one from your repair kit.
  4. Test the Repair: Inflate the board again and check for leaks using soapy water.

Air Bubbles on the Deck Pad

Air bubbles on the deck pad can be unsightly and uncomfortable. Here's how to fix them:

  1. Identify the Bubbles: Locate the air bubbles on the deck pad.
  2. Release Trapped Air: Use a needle or pin to gently puncture the bubbles.
  3. Apply Heat: Use a hair dryer or heat gun on a low setting to warm the area and help the pad adhere.
  4. Apply Pressure: Press down firmly on the bubble with your hands or a roller.
  5. Allow for Curing: Let the deck pad rest for a few hours to ensure proper adhesion.
  6. Test the Repair: Check for remaining bubbles after the curing period.

By following these steps, you can confidently repair seam leaks, valve leaks, and air bubbles on your inflatable paddle board. Timely repairs and regular maintenance will prolong the life of your board, ensuring countless enjoyable adventures on the water. Prioritize safety and consult Newell Outdoors for complex issues. Now, get ready for your next exciting paddle-boarding expedition!
